Day 49 (August 20th)

Notre-Dame-du-Portage, QC to Edmunston, NB

I spent about an hour reading on the shore before I started my daily rolling.

I rode to Rivière-du-Loup, where I climbed a hill and began heading South to New Brunswick. I took the TransCanada Trail to avoid the TransCanada Highway. The trail was built along an former rail line, so it was delightfully flat. The surface has also been maintained, so it was smooth. With the exception of about 10km that were under construction, it was a great go.

I passed along Lake Temiscouata, stopping for a swim.

As I would soon be out of the province of Quebec, I stopped to buy some beer at a convenience store (my last chance to do so!).

I crossed into New Brunswick and into the Atlantic Time Zone. This was convenient, because my Quebec was map more or less destroyed.

I rode under many an apple tree, and came away well supplied in apples.

On the far side of Edmunston, I set up my tent on the property of a Scouting group... I decided this is morally defensible as I had spent a great deal of the day thinking about getting involved with a local Scout troop back in Montreal.
