Coles Island to Moncton, NB
Flags were at half mast to mark the untimely death of Jack Layton, the leader of Canada's Official Opposition.
The flags however, also confirmed that the screaming wind was heading the exact same direction I was and I pedalled on.
I hit a pothole coming into Moncton which caused the upper fasten of my rear rack that I'd jury rigged out of-zip ties to fail (the metal fasten had failed a few days previous). As a result, the rack swung backwards, struck the road and dragged. I stopped and refastened the rack (with more zip-ties this time). Unfortunately, the blow had damaged my tent poles, though not enough to make them unusable - the shock cord was snapped, the fibreglass poles were worn down in some places, and the metal joints were somewhat dented.
I left the tent pole repair for later and continued on to visit my friend Doug who was in Moncton for a course as it happened. We walked to Canadian tire where I bought some thicker metal strapping to fix the rack, and then we headed for dinner and drinks with his room mate, Jake.
