The storm we had seen approaching when we tucked in last night hit hard around midnight. Tyler wondered if his helmet (which he had left outside) would blow away. Ian wondered if he should go outside to get his helmet and put it on, in case part of a tree fell on to his head. Luckily, Tyler's helmet was not blown away and part of a tree did not fall on Ian's head. In other news, the tent was not ripped apart by the wind.
Before too long we were passed by a pair of riders, and then another. A few dozen kilometres down the road we passed them, resting in the shade of a camper parked along the road. They were part of a group of cyclists riding from Vancouver on a trip organized by Velo Quebec. They kindly offered us water, but we politely declined as our hydration packs were full. They passed us again soon enough.
We've been on the TransCanada Highway now since before Medicine Hat, as we had to choose between it or over a hundred kilometres of gravel road at the provincial border. We have decided to stay on the Highway until Regina to facilitate Tyler's upcoming flight home (it's almost time for him to get back to Andrea, the bun in the oven, and... his job). The Highway isn't so bad, but it is a four lane divided highway with a higher volume of traffic than we like. For the most part, the shoulders are good and the driver's are courteous.
The day is a hot one, and we make camp in Tompkins around 18:00... AND HAVE SHOWERS.
