White Lake Provincial Park to Lake Superior Provincial Park, ON
It rained overnight and due to the late-night hooha (which I was not invited to...) I made a bit of a later start.
On my way into the town of White River - the home of Winnie the Pooh - someone in a passing transport truck tossed an empty pop can at me and hit my helmet. I wasn't quite able to make out the license plate, but I got as good a description of the truck and trailer as I could.
Conveniently, there was an Ontario Provincial Police detachment right in town.
I gave a statement and the truck was pulled over further down the road and the operator charged with littering and other offenses relating to the problems with the load and licence. I was told an assault charge would be difficult to prove as I didn't see the throw and intent would be iffy.
A constable told me it was a very expensive day for the truck operator, and thanked me reporting the incident, adding that "that sort of behaviour can't be tolerated on our highways."
I walked away from whole situation completely satisfied that justice had been served. I was very impressed with the officers who helped me out, and the whole process was quick, professional and efficient.
As I left, I was invited to fill up my water pack from their kitchen.
A big "Thank You" to Constables Fellinger and Simson and the dispatcher for their help.
I stopped for a lunch break at Hammer Lake and dipped my feet.
Passing the boundary of Obatanga Provincial Park, I rolled over a hunk of metal and sheared the sidewall of my rear tire. As I wasn't carrying a spare, this was problematic (even if I replace the tube, the tube itself will push through the hole in the tire when filled with air). I had a similar occurrence years ago when cycling in Britain, and try the solution that worked for me then. I cut apart some plastic and duct tape it into place. I replace the tube, and the patch holds, with minor bulging.
I roll on and make it to the absolutely gorgeous Lake Superior Provincial Park, where I call it a night.
