Day 36 (August 7th)

Worthington to North Bay, ON

A flat hit soon after the day started, but was quickly fixed and I rolled on.
One of the fasteners that stabilized my rear rack snappped. The rubber coating that covered it had worn off some time ago, and the pieces of bicycle tubing i had used to wrap it hadn't exactly prevented corrosion. This failure was likely due to the corrosion and the age of the part, as well as the fact that I had been riding on some fairly rough patches of road as of late. I reinforced the fastener with two zap-straps and carried on.

As I approached Sudbury, the scenery changed to a much more industrial one. but It was pretty in it's own way.

Past Sudbury I felt like I could ride forever, despite the rain and the headwind.
Then it was my turn to take the lead. When I pulled in front of David, whom I had been drafting behind for quite some time, I no longer felt as though I could ride forever...

I had met David on the road through Coniston. He had come through the United States and had crossed into Canada at Sault Ste. Marie. He was headed to Labrador and then crossing back into the States by ferry and then continuing on to Washington, DC, where he will be attending a peace rally before carrying on his journey.

We kept a conversation going throughout the day, which was a pleasant distraction from the rain and wind.

While stopped for snacks at a gas station, the woman behind the counter gave each of us a bottle of water and commended us on our trips. This kind gesture was very appreciated.

The rain let up as we rode on, taking breaks here and there, and reaching North Bay close to nightfall. David and I parted ways and I carried on to Nadine and Nathan's place, where I would be spending the night.
