Day 33 (August 4th)

Lake Superior Provincial Park to Sault Ste. Marie, ON

I was rocked to sleep the night before by the waves crashing onto the shore.
In the morning, I awoke to very gentle waves.

An hour or two into my day, the patch blew when I hit a rock. It had held for around 70km. and I replaced it with one based around a slightly thicker piece of plastic. This one seemed to hold better, and didn't bulge quite as much at pressure.
I rolled on.

At Montreal River, the road and I descended a great deal and I knew I was going to pay for it later -- and pay for it in a very bad way -- but for the time being, I was in bliss riding down the hill.

I took breaks at beautiful beaches and coves, but I passed by even more without stopping... The only way I managed to do this was by promising myself that I'd bring Shireen up here for a few weeks of sailing at some point in the future.

As darkness set in, I made Sault Ste. Marie and Velorution, the bicycle shop where I would be staying for the night. Yes -- in addition to selling bicycles, parts, and classes -- they offer a washroom with a shower and a small campground free to cyclists. I'd been told about the place by cyclists I encountered as they headed West.

Still feels like I should be out there with ya Ian! You know what fixes a big blow out in the side of your tire... A spare tire! :P

Glad you got it fixed and could push on... but it would have been great to be a bird watching you curse and pitter around trying to get the first patch on!

Best of luck Bud on the rest of your journey!
