I awoke to the sound of a work truck on passing on the rails. I slipped out of my sleeping bag, dressed, and crawled out of the tent as the truck backed up to where I was camped.
In french, I apologized for trespassing, explained my route, promised to be gone before too long and that I would leave absolutely no mess. I was met with smiles, and told that it was no trouble whatsoever.
A while down the road, the lever for my front derailleur seized. When I took it apart, I found that the inner mechanism had broken. I removed a piece and reassembled it. Happily, it still worked, though it would occasionally shift gears by itself.
I pressed on.
A few times, the Route Verte took "the long way around", and once it brought me along 20km or so of unpaved road that looked to be under-construction. Still, it was the a great route, and before too long I was passing through Montebello, Oka and in Laval.
I passed a fellow on a rather large unicycle. He was carrying a backpack with various camping gear. I would have taken a photo, but I was too flabbergasted.
In Laval, the route became a pinch undersigned and confusing, and I gave up on it for a while.
Eventually, I found my way back to it after crossing most of the city on some fairly busy roads.
I crossed a bridge, and was in Montreal. Here, the path was easier to follow and I was home before long.
